Epic Games and Apple: Head to Head

There has been a head to head quarrel going on among apple and epic games for a considerate amount of time now. Let’s see what is happening between the two giants. We all know about Apple; it is the tech giant everyone has heard it and some of them have afforded it as well. And on the other end of the battle is Epic games, the creator of Fortnite and third person shooter which made its position on the charts of the most popular games.

Recently Epic games launched their game Fortnite on App store and Google Play store. It gained popularity there also, and in the recent update Fortnite introduced a payment gateway in its app, that lead to all this dispute. After this update the direct payment would allow the consumers to make payments without going through apple or google gateways.

Now the drawback and the advantages after this update, people would get some in-app purchases at lower costs than it was previously. And drawback, not for the consumers apparently but for apple and google, yeah sure. Nearly 30% of the cut from the in-app purchases goes to the apple and google. So yeah it is a pretty big setback for them.

So, in the heated argument between the two, apple has given Fortnite developer until 28th August to remove the new payment system in the game – or it will revoke the company’s access to development tools for the Battle Royale from both iOS and Mac OS.

Although this is the reason which is coming up, but Apple has said that it removed epic from the app store because it violated the guidelines. It also added that the guidelines tell “create a level playing field for all developers and make the store safe for all users”

And on Google’s end, the google spokesman Dan Jackson said the tech firm m=would “welcome the opportunity to continue our discussions with Epic and bring Fortnite back to Google Play”

Bam! Epic responded by launching an anti-trust lawsuit against Apple, alleging that Apple exploits its monopoly over the App store. It even started a coalition against Apple, stating that, doing this would cause Apple “irreparable harm”

There have been some companies including Spotify, although the company has not joined officially. But they said, “We Applaud Epic Games’ decision to take a stand against Apple and shed further light on Apple’s abuse of its dominant position.”
